Also known as VO2 testing or lactate threshold testing, is the starting point for your training program and established the focus and framework for your training time. The benefits of testing for the athlete go beyond establishing heart rate zones and instead lend us to identifying specific limiters that could potentially cost an athlete out on the course.
However, this is more than just a lactate threshold test or a VO2max test. Rather than establishing only one point of reference (such as your VO2max or LT) to set-up multiple training zones, post-test we are able to build a profile of the athlete to identify specific limitations with regard to their goal race distance and pacing. Additionally, the accuracy for the testing is far greater than blood-sample lactate threshold testing which is both difficult to replicate and requires a strong degree of interpretation (off of one point) to establish your training parameters.
If you've been training by heart rate or have reached a plateau in your fitness it's highly reccomended that you set up a testing appointment. With each test we are able to identify your aerobic threshold, anaerobic threshold, VO2 max, and the relative strengths of these systems. As well we can identify the specific paces and / or wattages for each zone.
Have you been racing long course and struggling with your pacing or nutritional plan? Testing provides us the information to be frank and put together a pacing and nutritional plan that will work on race day. Don't buy it? Try asking our clients.
Trying to drop weight to maximize your running but not sure how much is too much or what caloric intake will still allow you to perform in training and on race day? We have the ability to also run a Resting Metabolic Rate test (RMR) to determine baseline nutritional needs that is a great complement with the bike and/or run testing.
